It Is What It Is!

It’s been a different type of summer in Puerto Vallarta.  The summer rainy season seems to have just gotten underway the past two weeks, finally cooling the late night/early morning temperatures into the high 70´s (76-78).  However, daytime temps are still reaching the low 90´s F with “Feels Like” temps of up to 118F.  The swimming pool feels like a bathtub, but, it´s wet!  We try to use our fans and keep the use of the A/C´s at a minimum due to the resultant sharp rises in electricity costs when turned on - local shopping sessions to air-conditioned stores with the car A/C at max. have become a high priority entertainment for us.  Our normal escape to the PNW has been delayed since they´ve been suffering with matching daytime temps.  

We´ve noticed that the local street soccer games haven´t been slowed down by the recent rains as in the past.  The games enthusiastically continue except during the hardest of downpours, during which the niño’s avail themselves of any available overhang until the downpour slackens enough to “see” again.  I´ve even seen the penalty kicks missed because the ball floated away at the last minute.  VIVA PILITAS I & II…!

It is nice being in PV at this time.  The crowds on the streets and in the stores are gone.  Only the locals, and the hardened gringos are here - you can actually depend on being able to park the car close to the store or restaurant of your choice, in fact someone commented to us when we went dining last evening, “Hey, looks like you were able to get Doris Day Parking” (look this up if your memory has failed you)…LOL   

The peso has hit a very low exchange vs the US dollar – 16.29 when I last checked.  Its real tough on the locals when you consider salary and other purchasing power has a hard time (if any) of catching up.  Prices at the big box stores like SAM´s, Costco, Wal-Mart, Mega catchup; however, the small independents really suffer.  Be that as it may its time to get some maintenance work done with maybe a little less DIY involvement – Más o menos.
