The Unknown

Spooky?

WOW…at times things happen seem to happen for which a quick answer is not readily forthcoming. I’m not a serious believer of unknown forces/….; however, things occasionally happen that are perplexing. I’m not really talking about scary, ghostly things…have you ever experienced a moment with your spouse when both of you have the same thought simultaneously or within moments of each other…or a small premonition that something is about to happen then it does just as you thought it would…or had dreams that came to happen…etc?

This seems to happen to all of us, possibly to some more often than others. But let me relay a little happening that we still are “scratching” or collective heads over. Some background - last season, Edgar our security person and jack-of-all-trades knocked on my door one evening and asked if anyone was staying in Joe’s condo directly beneath us. He looked very concerned and said that he could hear the TV on in Joe’s bedroom. I have the keys to most of the units so Edgar and I rang Joe’s bell plus knocked on the door. Getting no response I let us in and found that the TV was on. Turning it off, re-locking the door, and thanking Edgar for being so observant, I then e-mailed Joe to see if had guests staying in the condo (our rules are that we are all notified of impending guest so there are no surprises). Joe responded that he didn’t have any guest scheduled. A month went by without any more surprises, then a knock on my door, and Edgar was saying that the TV was on. Once again we checked and turned it off. We questioned the maid the following day and she said it had not been on while she was there (she’s also our maid and would not have been using it herself). After the third incident I unplugged it from the wall and that seemed to cure the problem.

Many months later we had a power surge – actually it was off for about 20 seconds – and when the power returned our living room TV came on…hmmm! Question resolved to our satisfaction, Joe’s TV off-power surge-TV on!

Now – last week I was watching the living room TV when the audio stopped. I still had video, but no audio. All type of tests were tried, including the DVD – no audio. The other condo TV’s worked perfectly. The condo electrician came over and said the audio was “burned-out” and said he’d get in touch with a TV technician. Being Mexico nothing happened for a week – then one morning at 6:00 AM we were waken by a loud audio discussing, in Spanish, the lack of local employment. Dolores assumed it was a local advertising truck and went out on the veranda to discuss with the offender the effective value of loud advertising at 6:00 AM. Passing the TV she was startled to find it on with a news program about local unemployment. Further checking of the TV found it was functioning without any problem. We checked for blinking clocks to see if a power surge/outage had occurred – Nada! The TV functions fine and we have cancelled all calls for service…with our fingers crossed.
