I´ve been Lax!

It´s now almost two weeks into the beginning of year 2012, I´ve signed up for the writers conferences next month; however, I´ve failed to write any text for my blogs.  Have I run out of material and have writers block – hmmm… No.  Have I to many things to do – I´m retired…No.  Have I been lazy – hmmm…possibly …No.  No.  Then… maybe I´ve been numbed by all the Football Bowl scores, starting with the U-Dub (U of W) losing 56 to 67 to Baylor and then Monday nights “nothing happened” performance by The BCS National championship game between two teams picked as collegiate footballs best, #1 LSU and #2 Alabama.  I still don´t know whether I was watching college football’s best defensive team or the most offensive team; however I think I´ll limit this year’s watching to soccer.  It reminds me of a saying by my old friend, “Anon”, “Didn't the guy who laughs last had to have it explained to him?”

Dolores Essence of Cuisine Cooking School is beginning to ramp up to speed, still featuring the item of choice for the past two seasons, Chile en Nogado (Menu A).  Won´t someone please choose a Thai theme or maybe Menu B, C or D!  Reference: www.essenceofcuisine.com. However, she´s having a great time and I hope it remains a good season.  With the large numbers of visitors in town it looks like a good start for all of us living life in Puerto Vallarta.

Living in Mexico means that everything you do requires personal and physical involvement.  You don´t mail bills, you deliver them to the recipient or to your Admin.  Shopping for the Cooking school requires a trip to at least 5 big box stores (SAM´s, Wal-Mart, Costco, Mega, Soriano’s, etc.) to get all the needed ingredients.  If you want some general maintenance done, plumbing, painting, electrical, cleaning, you´d better have all the tools yourself (wrenches, saws, brushes, strippers, ladder, etc); however, they do have the skill set.  Our veranda chaise lounge is made of rattan; however, the cushion base is plywood and a favorite food for termites.  To replace it I need to go to Home Depot and talk the clerks into cutting it to size, or failing that I´ll need to buy a skill saw, the only hand tool I presently don´t have.  Wish me luck!

Many of our PV friends and acquaintances have been returning from the “northlands” since the holidays have ended and daily invites are really increasing.  Along with the Cooking School schedule it really leaves us grasping for a free day and/or evening.  However, that´s the norm for life in PV and we wouldn’t have it any different.

Hasta la próxima.
