Electronics- Their “Care and Keeping” at Pilitas 204

Ever notice the maintenance of light bulbs in your home in Mexico.   Do you buy vibration resistant bulbs for your fans, or the Phillip Long Life (1 Year), or DuraMax (1.5 years), or the SmartLites that are rated at 5000 hours?  And what are your results?  At our house we´ve noticed some strange but consistent patterns.  For example, on every Cooking Class, we lose one light bulb (any type) 45-60 minutes ahead of scheduled class start, whether the classes are once-twice per week or twice per month.  That statistic has held true for over three years; however, we can have just as many lights on for an evening of entertainment and nothing happens!

We are on our 4th coffee maker – they are on a three year cycle in our home.  By this I mean the 3rd month of every 3rd season.   Hmmm!  Additionally, this year has seen the loss of two laptop computers, a printer, the above coffee maker, one flat-screen TV, a telephone, a ceiling fan, and a stand-alone upright fan.  And all are protected with surge devices.  By the way, that’s 3 laptops each, and 3 printers since we completed our first season in Mexico.

Have we purchased marginal brands?  The computers and printers were H.P. and Compaq.  We now have Lenovo (ThinkPad), Toshiba, and a shared Canon printer.  Our Sony Tube TV has lasted 10 years so we replaced the failed flat-screen unit with a Sony.  We´ll keep the fingers crossed and pray to the coming storm Gods to bless us.

Thought for the day: “Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”
