We returned to Puerto Vallarta on 1 November to begin the 8th season in residence. The weather was a little “muggy” and warm; however, it was a significant improvement over the PNW’s changing of seasons.
The city is coming back to life, slowly but surely. More tourists are arriving daily and most of the expats have returned for their season. Even though the visitor numbers are down from previous years it’s still a positive happening. I’m sure that most Mexican families will experience a small Christmas in terms of store-bought gifts; however, the focus on family and religion is still very strong – as it should be! I see many piñatas arriving at the homes of our local friends to be enjoyed over the holidays. The weather is consistent at low 80’s to low 60’s with blue skies daily. We (condo) just turned on the swimming pool heater today so that a “swimmingly” good Xmas can be had.

Dolores cooking school, Essence of Cuisine, is doing great, we’ve had 2 classes in November, 1 completed this month and 1 scheduled, plus 2 sold out in January, 2010. We plan to do 2-3 per month until April, when we leave for a visit to Cuba. After that we’ll see. Still working on a website to increase our presence, but the web master is still ill. Hope to be online in January.
The knee’s are still very troublesome so next summer will start the necessary medical procedures to correct the “worn-out” problem. Hate the cane, since I’m always knocking it over and scaring the poor unsuspecting out of their wits because of the loud noise when it hits the floor. Would be funny if it wasn’t me!
Dolores has been taking her quasi-adopted niño’s to the local theaters to see newly released movies. We always start the event with hotdogs, chips, and refresca at our condo then off to the movie house where they (niño’s) spend as much time running up and down the stairs to the baño as they do watching the movie, but it’s all great fun. Two were over last night for popcorn and a DVD movie.
While in Tonala last weekend I discovered this! Its a drink, not a bowl of soup. Got any new suggestions for a name?
